Description
This rich and flavorful homemade spaghetti sauce is a family heirloom recipe passed down through generations. Made with fresh herbs, aromatic garlic, and San Marzano tomatoes, it’s a classic comfort dish that turns any meal into a celebration.
Ingredients
1 lb lean ground beef
15 oz tomato sauce
6 oz tomato paste
3 x 15 oz cans of diced tomatoes (San Marzano preferred)
1 medium onion, chopped
5–6 cloves garlic, minced
1 tsp dried basil
1 tsp dried oregano
1 tsp dried parsley
½ tsp dried thyme
1 tsp garlic powder
2 tsp brown sugar
1 bay leaf
3 tbsp olive oil
Salt and pepper to taste
Instructions
1. Heat olive oil in a large pot or Dutch oven over medium heat. Add onions and garlic. Sauté until fragrant.
2. Add ground beef and cook until browned. Drain excess grease.
3. Stir in tomato sauce, tomato paste, diced tomatoes, and all herbs and seasonings. Mix well.
4. Bring sauce to a gentle boil. Reduce heat to low and simmer for at least 30 minutes, up to 2 hours.
5. Stir occasionally and adjust seasoning as needed. Remove bay leaf before serving.
6. Serve over pasta of your choice, topped with fresh basil and Parmesan if desired.
